Le jeune milieu de terrain sénégalais, Pape Daouda Diong, a officiellement signé avec le RC Strasbourg après des semaines d’attente et des obstacles administratifs surmontés. Sa venue a été officialisée par le club alsacien ce mardi, suite à son arrivée hier à Strasbourg pour rejoindre ses nouveaux coéquipiers.
Formé à l’Académie de Darou Salam au Sénégal, Diong s’est révélé lors de la dernière Coupe du Monde U17 en Indonésie, attirant ainsi l’attention des recruteurs européens. Le RC Strasbourg a conclu un accord de transfert de 1,2 million d’euros, avec des bonus potentiels atteignant 1 million d’euros, pour sécuriser les services du talentueux milieu de terrain pour les cinq prochaines saisons. Agé de seulement 18 ans, Diong est décrit comme un milieu de terrain axial complet, capable de contribuer offensivement avec aisance. Avant de finaliser son transfert, il a eu l’occasion de s’entraîner avec l’équipe réserve puis avec l’équipe première sous la direction de Patrick Vieira, préparant ainsi son intégration en Alsace.
Pape Diong s’est engagé avec le Racing jusqu’en 2029, et portera le numéro 17, devenant ainsi le dix-huitième joueur sénégalais de l’histoire du club. Son arrivée renforce les ambitions du RC Strasbourg pour la saison à venir, après avoir également recruté l’attaquant colombien Oscar Perea.
