Candidat malheureux pour l’organisation de la Can 2027, le Sénégal postulera-t-il pour l’édition 2029 ? Me Augustin Senghor, le président de la Fédération sénégalaise de football, a lâché un indice à ce sujet.
Mercredi, alors que les pronostics lui attribuaient la Can 2027, le Sénégal a été déçu. En effet, bien que le dossier du champion d’Afrique en titre soit «incroyable» et «impressionnant», dixit le président de la Caf, Patrice Motsepe, l’organisation de la 36e édition a été confiée au trio Kenya-Ouganda-Tanzanie.
Ces trois pays, qui abriteront de ce fait la première Can de leur histoire, ont été plébiscités eu égard notamment à la volonté de la Caf d’appliquer une rotation de la domiciliation de l’événement entre les pays du continent.
Depuis, les spéculations allaient bon train quant à une potentielle candidature du Sénégal en vue d’accueillir la compétition en 2029. Interrogé à ce sujet, le président de la Fsf, Me Augustin Senghor, n’a pas fermé la porte. Celui qui assume par ailleurs les fonctions de premier vice-président de la Caf a toutefois signifié qu’il fallait le feu vert préalable du gouvernement.
«Ce serait une bonne chose de revenir en compétition pour 2029, mais pour cela, il faut une décision des autorités», a-t-il déclaré mercredi au Caire, après l’officialisation des pays-hôtes des Can 2025 et 2027.
Pour l’heure, le processus de candidature à l’organisation de la Can 2029 n’est pas encore ouvert.
