Le défenseur international Abdou Diallo, en manque de temps de jeu au Paris-Saint-Germain (élite française), est devenu le temps de la CAN 2021, un des cadres de la sélection nationale, qu’il a rejointe en mars dernier. Buteur en septembre dernier contre le Togo (2-0) lors des éliminatoires de la Coupe du monde 2022, il a lancé mercredi dernier la victoire sénégalaise (3-1) contre le Burkina Faso, au stade Ahmadou-Ahidjo de Yaoundé. Avant cette ouverture du score, le défenseur de 25 ans, qui a joué tous les six premiers matchs des Lions à la CAN 2021 (9 janvier-6 février), a été remarqué par un discours musclé et mobilisateur après la qualification en demi-finale contre la Guinée Equatoriale. “Refusons de tomber dans l’euphorie, on nous présentera facilement comme favoris, mais nous connaissons notre objectif, on n’a rien fait encore”, avait martelé Diallo, à la fin du match, dans l’intimité des vestiaires. Des images captées par une caméra de la Fédération sénégalaise de football (FSF) ont fait le tour du monde en présentant le natif de Tours (France) sous un jour encore inconnu de la majeure partie du public sportif sénégalais. Par cette prise de parole dans un vestiaire où sont présents des leaders et cadres réputés pour leur exemplarité comme Sadio Mané, Idrissa Gana Guèye ou Edouard Mendy, le défenseur international, qui a eu le brassard de capitaine alors qu’il jouait à Dortmund (Allemagne), a crevé l’écran. “Sur ce que j’ai entendu de lui, cette prise de parole n’est pas une surprise”, a commenté l’ancien attaquant du PSG, Boubacar Sarr Locotte. “Les gens oublient qu’il a été capitaine à Dortmund quand même”, a rappelé l’ancien international, interrogé par l’APS. Locotte, qui a passé plusieurs années sur le banc du club parisien où il a ses entrées, le décrit comme “un nouveau cadre” dans le vestiaire sénégalais. “On ne prend pas facilement la parole dans un tel vestiaire, et il faut féliciter Idrissa Gana Guèye d’avoir facilité son intégration en sélection nationale”, a ajouté Locotte. Parlant de son arrivée dans la Tanière, il a rappelé, dans un entretien avec une radio parisienne, qu’il avait demandé à son coéquipier de lui donner les contacts du consulat du Sénégal à Paris. “Quand je rentre en France (en provenance de l’Allemagne), je signe au Paris Saint-Germain. Pendant un an, c’était compliqué avec mes soucis de santé, etc. Et l’année dernière, de moi-même, je suis allé au consulat. J’ai demandé à Gana de me passer le numéro du consulat pour que je puisse faire mes papiers. […] Ça y est, je suis Sénégalais, je veux mes papiers. […]” , a déclaré Diallo dans cet entretien. “De fil en aiguille, je finis par avoir le coach [Aliou Cissé] au téléphone. Je lui dis : coach, moi mon premier lien avec le Sénégal, c’est mon père. Donc, j’ai des choses à régler. Et une fois que je serai prêt, je prendrai ma décision encore une fois, en pleine connaissance de cause”, a-t-il indiqué. Le défenseur international explique avoir dit à Aliou Cissé qu’il avait fait son choix de façon volontaire, et sans rien en attendre en retour. “De toute façon, vous n’aurez pas besoin de me convaincre, je ne vais pas venir au Sénégal parce qu’on m’a dit que je pourrais avoir telle ou telle chose. Je viens au Sénégal parce que j’ai envie de venir au Sénégal. Laissez-moi régler mes petits trucs personnels et je vous fais sign”, a poursuivi le défenseur central. “Quand j’ai réglé mes trucs, je lui ai dit que je venais. Voilà comment ça s’est fait. Et en mars, première sélection”, a raconté l’ancien défenseur de l’équipe Espoir de France. Mais un véritable concours de circonstances a aidé le défenseur central à se rapprocher de la sélection nationale, dont il est devenu un leader à part entière. Formé à l’AS Monaco, Abdou Diallo qui a aussi joué à Mayence (2017-2018) et Dortmund (2018-2019), avant de signer en faveur du PSG en 2019, avait raté l’Euro Espoirs de 2019 en raison d’une opération bénigne. L’entraîneur français de cette sélection, Sylvain Ripoll, avait refusé d’accéder à la demande de son capitaine qui devait manquer le début de la préparation de cette compétition, à cause de cette opération bénigne. Diallo a profité de ce refus pour organiser son premier voyage au Sénégal avec son épouse pour sa rapprocher de ses racines, du pays de son père. Ce voyage qui est resté un souvenir grandiose l’a tellement marqué, qu’il s’est senti définitivement membre à part entière de cette famille sénégalaise, ce qui a facilité son envie de rejoindre la sélection nationale pour boucler la boucle, a-t-il laissé entendre dans le même entretien. Et après avoir fait ce voyage d’imprégnation avec son épouse, Abdou Diallo a sauté le pas en se dirigeant vers la sélection du Sénégal.
Et depuis mars dernier, son nom est couché régulièrement sur les feuilles de convocation. Après la CAN, le PSG va récupérer “un footballeur requinqué sur le plan moral, qui a retrouvé sa confiance”, estime Locotte, indiquant qu’il le verrait continuer dans le club parisien où il pourrait facilement faire 20-30 matchs par saison. “En tous les cas, on peut dire qu’il a repris sa marche en avant avec cette sélection du Sénégal, et cette Coupe d’Afrique des nations le fera grandir davantage”, a commenté Locotte au sujet du défenseur de 25 ans.
